Tawny Frogmouth
One day, while I was on duty at Native Animal Rescue’s clinic, a guy came in with a Tawny Frogmouth. It had been caught up in a barbed wire fence on a farm in Chittering and had a very nasty open fracture to one wing. Unfortunately the break was too bad and we were not able to save the bird.
It just so happened that we had two other Tawnys in the clinic, at the time, which we had raised from fledglings and they were ready for release. After a quick discussion with the guy, we were able to put the two healthy young Tawnys in a box and send them on their way to Chittering for release. He was grateful to be able to take two back to replace the one that we could not save and the two young Tawnys had the chance to be released in an area where people cared for them. That dusk they were released to enjoy their new home.
For the guy who brought in the injured Tawny, that was the first time he had ever seen a Tawny, let alone held one. Sad that we could not save the one brought in, but what a buzz for this guy to be able to go out at dusk, back in Chittering, and set two more free in place of the injured one. And I bet he has got his eye in for Tawnys now and is seeing them regularly.
