Volunteering

If you would like to get involved in the work of Native Animal Rescue contact us and have a chat about how your skills might be used.  It does not necessarily need to involve working with animals.  We are always looking for assistance from tradies and handy people, either in helping out with construction and maintenance work or simply providing advice on the best way things can be done.

We can make good use of people with receptionist skills – you do not need to be able to answer enquiries about caring for animals, simply be able to take the calls in a professional manner, identify the people’s concerns and then direct the call to the most appropriate staff on duty.  You would be amazed how much time that would free up our clinic staff to care for the animals.

People with good administration or data entry skills are always welcomed as are people who can write promotional or training materials, edit instruction manuals or help put together newsletters.  If you can maintain the website, we need you

We want to develop our educational programs for schools.  You might be a retired school teacher, or even a practicing teacher with whom we could sit down, and by combining our wildlife knowledge with your teaching knowledge put together really exciting and effective programs for schools.

We are looking for people, who are careful drivers to drive our rescue vehicle, collecting animals from our collaborating vets and bringing them back to NAR for rehabilitation.  If you can spare a half a day here a half a day there, we can put you into our rescue vehicle roster.

Of course, we also need people who want to work with our wildlife.  The centre is open 9am to 5pm every day of the year.  OK, we cheat a bit on Christmas Day, but you get the drift.  You do not need to know anything about caring for or handling wildlife; we will teach you.  If you are looking towards a career in a veterinary or wildlife area, volunteering at NAR is an excellent way to build up your practical credits.  It will also help you determine whether working with animals is really what you want to do for a career.

Please note, for insurance purposes, we cannot accept volunteers younger than 15.

From time to time, we have working bees to undertake maintenance and development projects at NAR. These are times of hard work and good fun and they are a good way to know each other and get involved on an occasional basis.

As well as welcoming our regular volunteers we are happy to work with groups of volunteers on a one-off basis e.g. corporate volunteer days. Why not organise a ‘work for a day at Native Animal Rescue’ event? We could work with you to plan a day at Native Animal Rescue tailored to the interests/skills of the people at your business.
